The Green Bay Packers and head coach Matt LaFleur couldn’t be more excited about their offense than they already are. However, the defensive side of the ball is a bit less certain. The defensive line still has many question marks surrounding it, and the cornerback room faces a major uncertainty as their top player, Jaire Alexander, may not even return.

Alexander and the Packers have been attempting to work out a deal that benefits both sides.

“On the contract front, the Packers could want a revised deal that allows Alexander — who has missed at least 10 games in three of the last four seasons — to earn his full salary if he’s healthy and available in 2025 but protects the team in case the injuries continue,” Packers Wire’s Zach Kruse wrote.

Alexander hasn’t returned to workouts but has stayed in contact with some of the coaching staff.

“Alexander has not reported to the Packers’ voluntary workouts, which would raise red flags over his status with the team. While speculation has run wild, passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley sang a different tune, telling ESPN’s Rob Demovsky that he’s been in contact with Alexander every day while skipping the offseason workouts,” Dairyland Express’ Chris Schad wrote.

Head coach Matt LaFleur wants a deal to be worked out and wants his veteran on the roster. CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin believes a trade could be possible with an upcoming team.

“Now the Packers apparently have a new contract offer on the table, but if the Pro Bowler doesn’t bite at a pay cut, Green Bay could save $17 million by cutting or trading the cornerback after June 1. That’s an increase of $9.5 million from prior to June 1. Potential landing spot Commanders,” Benjamin wrote.

Alexander would be a huge boost for the Commanders, who are looking to build off last season’s incredible year. Jayden Daniels is the former Rookie of the Year, so Alexander would be joining a team with a bright future ahead.
