The Green Bay Packers were free agency winners in 2024.
That’s when they upgraded their safety position with Xavier McKinney, which turned out to be quite the smart move.
Now, the Packers are hoping to replicate that magic.
The Sporting News senior NFL writer Vinnie Iyer thinks Green Bay needs another safety.
“The Packers are weak next to Xavier McKinney, a star free-agent addition from 2024,” Iyer writes. “Their best options start with Justin Simmons and Julian Blackmon, who both should be on teams by the start of the season.”

Simmons and Blackmon are both talented players on the back end with the ability to go get the football.
The Packers have options other free agency than this, too.

They’ve got plenty of receivers they could make available as trade candidates from the ranks of Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson and the like.
Jordan Love is surely happy with all the skill-position talent around him, but they need to see if they can continue to bolster the rest of the roster, as well. Love with strong receivers and a good defense to protect a strong-throwing lead will be the reason he’s on his way to his possible best season.

And hey, who knows? A top safety corps could be fantastic for Green Bay. Maybe a Super Bowl is coming if the Packers just make a simple upgrade or two.
