Opetaia vs. Squeo: Start Times, Streaming Details & What to Expect From the Aussie Wrecking Ball

Jai Opetaia defends his IBF cruiserweight world title against undefeated Italian Claudio Squeo on Sunday, June 8, at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Broadbeach, Australia, live on DAZN at 5:00 a.m. ET / 10:00 a.m. BST / 7:00 p.m. AEST.

The main event ringwalk is expected around 8:00 a.m. ET / 1:00 p.m. BST / 10:00 p.m. AEST. Undercard action begins locally at 4:15 p.m. AEST.

Trouble at the scales

Squeo came in nearly 9 pounds under the cruiserweight limit, tipping the scales at 86.7 kg (191.2 lbs), while Opetaia was just under the cap at 90.45 kg (199.4 lbs). The difference isn’t subtle — it’s either a desperate strategy or a red flag. No one walks into a fight like this undercooked unless something’s gone sideways.

Squeo has typically been around 88kg. Dropping below that before the biggest night of his life? It’s shaky. He better be counting on speed because if it turns into a shootout, he’s likely toast.

Opetaia’s camp didn’t hold back either. After American Keyshawn Davis missed weight this weekend in the U.S., Opetaia told DAZN: “It’s bulls***.” He’s been paying out of his own pocket to get opponents. The man doesn’t have time for nonsense.

Also, his father/trainer Tapu Opetaia had a health scare on Friday with chest pain but is reportedly fine and will still be in the corner. The circus never stops, even on fight week.

Undercard brings punchers

Conor Wallace takes on Dylan Colin at light heavyweight, while Tyler Blizzard fights Rocky Ogden in a featherweight bout that might steal the show. Add in Daniel Keating vs. Blake Minto at welterweight and Max McIntyre vs. Ricaia Warren at super middle, and you’ve got yourself a card with teeth.

Why to Watch

  • Opetaia is a wrecking ball — four knockouts in his last five, and no one wants to face him.

  • Squeo looks out of his depth — but sometimes desperate men swing hardest.

  • Opetaia speaks his mind — slamming U.S. fighters and paying for challengers himself.

  • It’s Sunday night in Australia — but a brutal breakfast for UK and U.S. fight fans.
