Open Thread: How today’s NBA looks through an 80s lens

Open Thread: How today’s NBA looks through an 80s lens

Yesterday I posted on some found footage of the Spurs and Lakers 1982 Western Conference Finals. If that didn’t stir a desire for parachute pants, Hypercolor t-shirts, and big hair, someone created this amazing post:

As if pairing today’s biggest NBA starts with their 80s throwback jerseys was not enough, the creator added era appropriate hairstyles to match.

While giving Luka Doncic a taste of John Stamos’ famous hair kicks off the post in the most excellent way, Nikola Jokic’s Nuggets throwback mullet and mustache is just about the raddest photoshop ever. That said, Anthony Davis’ Washington Bullets triggered a “Got Milk” coming out my nose moment.

They were a few that didn’t change too dramatically, which may say more about today’s fashion that yesteryear. Stephen Curry and Victor Wembanyama are basically the same…just with shorter shorts.

Kevin Durant looks like he could play Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in a biopic. Jason Tatum appears to have been given John Travolta’s Staying Alive haircut. But James Harden takes the cake. The jacked up, knee high, color-coordinated socks place him right in the middle of the Los Angeles Clippers (first) worst era.

I realize I’ve been off-roading some of these OTs, but the basketball news has been slow as the summer winds down and the Spurs prepare for the preseason. There is a lot on the horizon and much to be excited for, so keep checking back.

In the meantime, add your favorite 80s phrase in the comments and share which player you think looks the most like he just crawled out of a DeLorean with the Huey Lewis blaring through the speakers.

Welcome to the Thread. Join in the conversation, start your own discussion, and share your thoughts. This is the Spurs community, your Spurs community. Thanks for being here.
