Devin Haney is a week away from D-Day against the hard-hitting former unified 140-lb champion Jose Ramirez on May 2nd at Times Square in New York City. All that work that Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) has put in rebuilding after what many fans believe was his second career defeat will have been wasted.

Haney-Ramirez is the chief support bout on the Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero card on DAZN PPV. Bringing up the rear is Teofimo Lopez vs. Arnold Barboza Jr. in the first fight of the night.
What’s at Stake
- Rematch with Ryan Garcia
- Future fights down the drain: Teofimo, Kingry, and Jaron Ennis are less likely to happen
- Popularity diminished
- Career collapse
In what some see as a sign of desperation, Haney added Shane Mosley to his team as one of his coaches. However, Bill Haney is still the lead trainer, which defeats the whole purpose of bringing Mosley on board. Shane can’t do much anyway to change or fix the fundamental problem in Haney – his glass chin.
It doesn’t matter what great advice Mosley has for Devin; he’s still going to be vulnerable to Ramirez’s power when he lands his power shots. Haney, 26, is trying to rebuild himself from the ground up after losing to Ryan Garcia last April.
Kingry was shooting holes through Haney the entire fight, dropping him seven times, with the referee only counting three of them. It was a complete mismatch, and it should have been stopped in round seven.
No Bragging Now
“They tried to gang up. They thought we were stupid. You thought we were just going to lie down and take whatever you had,” said Bill Haney to DAZN Boxing, talking about the new trainer his son, Devin, has added to his team.
“Chap always says, ‘Bring in the best,’ and they slipped and left somebody really important. We picked him up and made another acquisition. Show them what we got over there. Yeah, surprise,” said Bill, revealing that Shane Mosley has been incorporated into Haney’s training team for the Ramirez fight.
As you can see, Bill sounds worried. He’s not bragging like he was before, and he has a worried look to him, knowing what could happen if Devin loses on Saturday. The chances of living in the beautiful Platinum Triangle – Bel Air, Beverly Hills, and Holmby Hills- are all gone.
