Omari Jones shuts out Christian Gomez over eight rounds in Orlando

Omari Jones (6-0) showed he can control a full fight without needing a finish, handing Christian Alan Gómez Durán (23-7-1) a one-sided decision over eight rounds on Saturday night at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida.

The scores told the story cleanly. All three judges had it 80-72, giving Jones every round in his first scheduled eight-round bout as a professional. The hometown prospect kept the fight at his pace from the opening bell and never let the veteran find a foothold.

The 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Omari worked behind his jab and quicker hands from the start, keeping Gomez at range and taking rounds without much resistance. Gomez tried to come forward at times, but he couldn’t land clean or keep Jones in place long enough to change anything.

There were no knockdowns, but the rounds were clear. Jones, 23, was first and last in most exchanges, while Gomez spent long stretches trying to get close without success.

Gomez continued to push forward in spots, but Omari stayed in control, using the jab and short shots to keep him from getting set. The pattern didn’t change, and the rounds kept going the same way.

The bout marked the first time Jones went the distance as a pro, and he handled it without a drop in output or focus. Instead of chasing a stoppage, he stayed disciplined and closed each round on his terms.

Fighting in his home city on the undercard of Carlos Adames vs. Austin Williams, Jones delivered a clear step forward performance against a more experienced opponent. The result keeps his record clean while showing he can handle rounds, pace, and control against a durable opponent who was not there to fall early.
