Oilers vs. Stars Game 2 Best Bets, Picks, and Predictions

Lessons are often learned the hard way in the playoffs. Edmonton was taught in six minutes that everything can be undone. Dallas rallied in Game 1 with three power-play goals en route to a five-goal outburst and a 6-3 Game 1 victory. Can Edmonton bounce back, or will Dallas go up 2-0 in the series?

Game 2 is coming up fast and furious this Friday night.

Edmonton A Draw To Adversity

For bettors and readers, this is what happened during the third period in a nutshell. This is the Reader’s Digest version.

  • Dallas scored three power-play goals in five minutes and 26 seconds
  • Edmonton took back-to-back high sticking penalties (Corey Perry and Evander Kane)
  • Dallas scored five goals on 11 shots in the final stanza

Jake Oettinger stopped 0.74 goals above average at even strength which can be difficult against the Edmonton Oilers. Stuart Skinner could not make the save on Tyler Seguin to keep it a one goal deficit. However, Edmonton’s discipline came into question. Most forget that Los Angeles executed on the power play at a 40% rate (8-for-20).

Now, did Dallas see something in the Los Angeles series? It was clear in that third period frenzy that the Stars changed their tactics on the man advantage. Edmonton could not cope and the game completely changed. Add in the prospect that Stuart Skinner may not return until the middle of next week and Oilers’ fans and bettors have to be a little nervous.

Edmonton scored three goals and still lost. The Oilers did give up 3+ goals in four games versus Los Angeles and won three of those contests. Edmonton yielded 10 goals in the first three games of the Vegas series before clamping down. Honestly, the Oilers do not make things easier on themselves.

The problem for Dallas, Edmonton, and betting this series is the volatility. At the same time, this adds to the excitement and drama of making wagers on such a series.

Yes, the Dallas goaltender was the biggest difference-maker against Edmonton. He kept the Stars in the game until that surge. Expect the likelihood of more of the same on Friday if Dallas is to win again.

After 20 minutes, expect both teams to play this closer to the vest again. Do not be surprised to see another draw here. Edmonton wants to speed things up, but not at the expense of making mistakes on their end.

Period 1 Bet: Dallas and Edmonton draw after 20 (+175 via Caesars).

Dallas Stars vs Edmonton Oilers Series Swing Illustrator

For those wondering, this is what things looked like before Game 1:

  • Edmonton was a -120 favorite to win the series while Dallas was around Even.
  • Game 2 sees Dallas as a -190 favorite to advance, and Edmonton is a +160 underdog.

Dallas showed their mettle in Game 1 by exploiting the Edmonton miscues. That is bluntly how the Stars must win this series. If Edmonton does not make mistakes, the Oilers will win Game 2 and swing the best-of-seven in their favor.

If one still has faith in Edmonton, that +160 number via DraftKings is not bad. After all, the Oilers make nothing easy. Even against the Vegas Golden Knights, the Oilers fell behind 2-0 midway through the first period of Game 1. Edmonton does nothing easy. Even the 1-0 overtime shutout of Vegas was far from a breather.

Edmonton’s depth hurt Edmonton in the opening game. When does it start to help? The thought process is that it begins in Game 2. Money is shifting around on the moneyline, which stands at between  Even and -110. BetMGM has it Even at press time.

How About A Few Bets To Consider Out The Door

There should be more defense in Game 2. The total is now 6.5 goals, and the under, even at -115, is an option. Looking at Tyler Seguin to shoot a little less would not be a surprise. His Under 1.5 shots prop is now +130 via DraftKings.

A Final Wager: Tyler Seguin Under 1.5 shots (+130 via DraftKings).
