Mattias Ekholm is one of the best players in the Western Conference, his team certainly needs him back.
However, Ekholm may return soon and could take the ice with his club if the Edmonton Oilers are to advance past their current series against Las Vegas.
“Mattias has been on the ice for light skates,” Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch said. “He will not be joining us this series. We’re hopeful that he can join us next series if we can get to that.”
The Oilers are currently up 3-1 in their series against Vegas, with game five taking place on Wednesday.
“I don’t think we’re looking at how many games left we have in the series. It’s a one-game mentality,” Knoblauch said. “When we lost Game 3 (4-3 on Saturday) the way we did, it was forget about it, let’s move on to the next one.”
“Obviously, there’s a lot of benefits of winning that next game,” Knoblauch said. “One, you don’t give that opportunity for Vegas to put together a string of wins, and then also the ability just to have some downtime, guys can rest and not add on.

Ekholm’s injury has been an ongoing storyline throughout the playoffs, however it looks like the Oilers star might be back very soon.
“You know, the bumps and bruises through the playoff season as it goes, guys get banged up and it’s a physical game, as we’ve talked about, but I think right now that’s an extra benefit.
