Ogura withdrawn from Aragon MotoGP after medical checks

Ai Ogura will sit out the Aragon Grand Prix for Trackhouse having been unable to sufficiently recover from a tibia fracture sustained at Silverstone last month.

The Moto2 world champion was injured after crashing during the FP1 session of the British Grand Prix and withdrew from the meeting at Silverstone.

Ogura underwent surgery following a fracture to his right tibia just below the knee, and there was hope that there was enough recovery time following last week’s operation to allow the Japanese rider to race.

However, a medical examination was carried out late on Thursday afternoon which determined that the 24-year-old was not yet fit enough to return to the MotoGP grid this weekend.

The Trackhouse team said: “Ai Ogura underwent a further medical assessment this afternoon, with Dr. Juan Monllau, the surgeon who carried out the keyhole surgery to repair a fracture to the top of his right Tibia. While recovery progress is positive, unfortunately, the medical advice is that Ai is not yet sufficiently healed to allow him to ride in the Grand Prix of Aragon, this weekend.

“Therefore, the Trackhouse MotoGP Team, respecting the medical guidance, will not run Ai Ogura at Motorland and he will, instead, continue his rehabilitation, targeting a comeback at Mugello for the Italian Grand Prix, in two weeks.

“All at Trackhouse are disappointed that Ai is unable to get out on track but are fully supportive of the need for him to be fit to ride, before he gets aboard the #79 Trackhouse Aprilia RS-GP25. The team will continue to do everything possible to support him in his recovery and look forward to seeing him back soon.”

This will no doubt be a disappointment for the Japanese rider who hopes that the period before the Italian Grand Prix on 22 June will give him enough recovery time to allow him to get back on his Aprilia RS-GP25.

Trackhouse will slim down to a one-rider entry at Aragon with Raul Fernandez.
