Nuggets promote Ben Tenzer to executive VP of basketball operations, hire Jon Wallace in front-office overhaul

The Denver Nuggets’ front office is coming together following the team’s shakeup toward the end of the regular season. The team reportedly promoted Ben Tenzer to executive vice president of basketball operations and hired Jon Wallace from the Minnesota Timberwolves to be its executive vice president of player personnel, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The team was in need of changes following the surprising firings of head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth with just three games left in the regular season. In May, the team announced interim head coach David Adelman, who took over for Malone, would be promoted into the full-time role.

The team is taking the same track with Tenzer, who served as its interim general manager after Booth was fired. Tenzer is a long-time member of the team, who has been working on pre-draft prep before and after Booth was fired, per the Denver Post.

Wallace returns to the Nuggets after nearly three years with the Timberwolves, where he served as the director of player personnel. Prior to joining Minnesota, Wallace spent three-and-a-half years with the Nuggets as a scouting coordinator and basketball operations associate.

Tenzer and Wallace will report to Josh Kroenke.

The pair will be tasked with getting the Nuggets back to an elite level of play after the team dropped to the No. 4 seed during the 2024-25 NBA season. While that would be a successful year for most franchises, it was a disappointment for the Nuggets, which were the No. 2 seed in the playoffs the season prior to that.

The team was even better in 2022-23, securing the top seed in the Western Conference and winning the NBA championship.

Though Tenzer and Wallace have work to do to get the Nuggets back to top form, the team is in a good spot with three-time MVP Nikola Jokic. Finding him more help will go a long way toward to Nuggets once again finishing near the top of the Western Conference.
