Nottingham Forest plotting sensational swoop for Man Utd outcast Jadon Sancho to replace Newcastle newboy Anthony Elanga

NOTTINGHAM FOREST are plotting a sensational swoop for Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho.

Forest were heavily linked with a loan move for the England winger last season, but he ended up joining Chelsea.

But SunSport understands mega-rich Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is now prepared to bankroll a fresh deal to bring the 25-year-old to the City Ground.

Sancho has returned to United for pre-season training under Ruben Amorim, but the Red Devils remain desperate to offload him following their high-profile fallout last year leaving their £73million star in limbo.

The former Dortmund man is part of Man Utd’s five-man bomb squad who are banned from the Carrington training ground until the rest of the squad have gone home.

Now Forest see the wide man as a dream replacement for Anthony Elanga, 23, who has joined Newcastle United in a move that left Forest fans gutted.

Elanga, like Sancho, was cast aside by United but shone in the Premier League last season. Eddie Howe hopes the Swede will now light up both league and Europe for the Magpies.

Forest believe Sancho could follow a similar redemption arc and rediscover his best form.

His arrival would be a huge boost to supporters, especially with midfield maestro Morgan Gibbs-White, 25, subject of serious interest from Tottenham.

Thomas Frank’s side triggered a secret release clause in the England man’s contract earlier this month, but Forest have since lodged legal complaints, arguing they did not give permission to approach their star man.

Sancho’s career has been a rollercoaster.

After leaving Manchester City’s academy at 17 to join Dortmund in 2017, Sancho burst onto the scene in Germany, racking up 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 games.

His electric pace, dazzling feet and clinical finishing made him one of the most sought-after young stars in world football.

United paid big money to bring him back to England in 2021, but the dream move quickly turned sour.

Sancho struggled to adapt, managing just 12 goals in 82 appearances before falling out with Ten Hag last autumn and being banished from first-team training.

Forest, though, are ready to take the gamble, and hope that with regular football, the 25-year-old can finally reignite his career and become a Premier League star once again.

And with Gibbs-White possibly heading out, a headline signing like Sancho could be just what Forest need to excite the fans and push up the table this season.
