Eddie Hearn says the still-retired Tyson Fury is “not in decline” and not past his best. That’s why it doesn’t make sense for the former WBC heavyweight champion Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) to stay out of the game when he’s still in top form.
No Decline?
It’s hard to believe that Hearn can’t see the deterioration in Fury, who has lost his last two fights to Oleksandr Usyk and looks like the shadow of the form he was in when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.
Fury, 36, hasn’t commented about coming out of retirement, but he did post a short video clip of him hitting the heavy bag this week. That brief clip got Hearn all worked up, seeing it as hope that he’ll return to the ring to face Anthony Joshua in a mega-fight. That’s the one that Hearn has been pushing for.
“You never know if Tyson did it because he was punching the bag and wanted to film it or he wanted to get people excited,” said Eddie Hearn to Boxing News about Tyson Fury’s uploaded video clip on social media of him hitting the bag this week. “I’m sure the latter did happen because I got excited.”
Fury’s Bag Video
Fury wouldn’t be hitting the bag and putting it on video if he wasn’t considering returning to the ring. To be in the gym, working out, and keeping trim, he must think about the money he’ll get fighting Anthony Joshua in what Hearn calls ‘The Battle of Britain.’ When you’re looking at the hundreds of millions that would be offered, Fury can’t resist coming back to scoop that treasure up.
‘The Gypys King’ Fury likes money too much for him not to come out of retirement to fight Joshua or someone like Daniel Dubois if Turki offers him a bundle. If the goal is for Tyson to bump up his net worth to half a billion, fighting Joshua x 2 or 3 would be the way to accomplish that.
“It wasn’t emotional watching him. The thing is with Tyson is, he’s not in decline,” said Hearn soudning 100% disengenious. “When you retire and you’re kind of past your best, I kind of get it, but he’s not. And that’s what gives me hope that one day he just picks up the phone to AJ or to Frank or Spencer and says, ‘Let’s do it. Let’s give the world the biggest fight out there.’ We can only hope.
“But listen, good luck to him for whatever he decides, we wish him the best,” said Hearn about Fury.
