AFC playoff picture
1. Kansas City Chiefs 9-0 (first place, AFC West): The Chiefs are headed toward returning to the top seed and home-field advantage with a bye in the playoffs with the Bills being the biggest obstacle left on their second-half schedule.
2. Buffalo Bills 8-2 (first place, AFC East): The Bills are positioned to roll to a fifth consecutive AFC East title and will be looking to put more pressure on the Chiefs down the stretch while they also hold off some tough teams behind them.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers 7-2 (first place, AFC North): The Steelers continue to lead the division by a half-game over the Ravens, who opened Week 10 with a win over the Bengals. The Steelers beat the Commanders in a Sunday thriller to stay atop the division.
4. Houston Texans 6-4 (first place, AFC South) The Texans have a strong two-game lead on the Colts, who they beat twice, and are positioned to cruise to a second straight division title. However, their loss to the Lions cost them a chance to keep pace with the three division leaders ahead of them.
5. Baltimore Ravens 7-3 (second place, AFC North): The Ravens did not take over first place after winning on Thursday night, but they have a critical direct shot at the Steelers in Pittsburgh in Week 11 to get that goal accomplished before December.
6. Los Angeles Chargers 6-3 (second place, AFC West): The Chargers keep beating the teams they should beat to pad their strong playoff chances in their first season under Jim Harbaugh. They took care of business against the Titans in Week 10 before hosting the Bengals in Week 11.
7. Denver Broncos 5-5 (third place, AFC West): The Broncos are holding on loosely to the last playoff spot after having lost at Baltimore in Week 9. Their chances are fading fast after losing a tough one at Kansas City in Week 10.
Who’s in the hunt?
- 8. Indianapolis Colts 4-6 (second place, AFC South)
- 9. Cincinnati Bengals 4-6 (third place, AFC North)
Of these two teams right behind the Broncos, the Bengals, even with the loss in Week 10, are still better equipped to make a late run because of having the big quarterback edge with Joe Burrow, who can be MVP if he takes his team to the playoffs after an 0-3 start.
Who’s left?
- 10. New York Jets 3-7 (second place, AFC East)
- 11. New England Patriots 3-7 (third place, AFC East)
- 12. Miami Dolphins 2-6 (fourth place, AFC East)
- 13. Cleveland Browns 2-7 (fourth place, AFC North)
- 14. Tennessee Titans 2-7 (third place, AFC South)
- 15. Las Vegas Raiders 2-7 (fourth place, AFC West)
- 16. Jacksonville Jaguars 2-8 (fourth place, AFC South)
NFC playoff picture
1. Detroit Lions 8-1 (first place, NFC North): The Lions hold this spot for home-field advantage and the lone bye by a game over the Eagles after keeping pace and coming back to beat the Texans in Houston on Sunday night.
2. Philadelphia Eagles 7-2 (first place, NFC East): The Eagles are ahead of the Commanders by a half-game with one fewer loss. Their matchup in Philadelphia to open Week 11 on Thursday night will set the tone for who ends up winning the division.
3. Atlanta Falcons 6-4 (first place, NFC South): The Falcons are 4-1 in division play after losing at New Orleans, still leading the South by two games over the Buccaneers, who they have already swept this season. They are looking great for at least this seed with the division title thanks to a major quarterback upgrade in Kirk Cousins.
4. Arizona Cardinals 6-4 (first place, NFC West): The Cardinals beat the Jets to stay a half-game ahead of the winning 49ers and also extend their lead over the second-place Rams, who play on Monday night. The last-place Seahawks, who have a bye in Week 10, are only 1.5 games behind.
5. Minnesota Vikings 7-2 (second place, NFC North): The Vikings have fallen behind the Lions in the division rice, but they kept strengthening their great NFC wild-card position with a tough but expected road win over the Jaguars on Sunday.
6. Washington Commanders 7-3 (second place, NFC East): The Commanders consider themselves to be strong NFC title contenders, and that hasn’t changed after a tough interconference home loss to the Steelers. They can work on the division title when they play at first-place Philadelphia on Thursday night in Week 11.
7. Green Bay Packers 6-3 (third place, NFC North): The Packers were turned away at home vs. the Lions in Week 9 and badly needed their Week 10 bye to regroup. They have another key division road game vs. the Bears in Week 11.
Who’s in the hunt?
- 8. San Francisco 49ers 5-4 (second place, NFC West)
- 9. Los Angeles Rams 4-4 (third place, NFC West)
- 10. Chicago Bears 4-5 (fourth place, NFC North)
- 11. Seattle Seahawks 4-5 (fourth place, NFC West)
- 12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-6 (second place, NFC South)
The Bears are fading fast as a wild-card hopeful in a tough division, but there’s likely room for two teams from the NFC West. The Buccaneers and Seahawks have little margin for error going forward.
Who’s left?
- 13. Dallas Cowboys (3-6, third place, NFC East)
- 14. New Orleans Saints 3-7 (third place, NFC South)
- 15. Carolina Panthers 3-7 (fourth place, NFC South)
- 16. New York Giants 2-8 (fourth place, NFC East)
The Cowboys are toast without Dak Prescott. The Panthers beat the Giants in Germany to get away from cellar consideration, but they fell to last in the South because the Saints upset the first-place Falcons.
