NFL insider pours cold water on Giants’ plan to make ideal offseason move

The New York Giants may have been holding out hope for the opportunity to make a splash move in the 2025 NFL Draft, but appears those hopes have been dashed.

Even as the Giants wait for the veteran quarterback market to settle amid Aaron Rodgers’ dragged-out decision, the whole offseason revolves around the idea of landing a potential franchise quarterback in the form of an incoming rookie.

Part of that plan likely involved a potential trade with the Tennessee Titans for the No. 1 overall pick. However, the latest update suggests the Giants must find a pivot option, per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan on the “Breaking Blue” podcast over the weekend.

“Plan A was to get Matthew Stafford this offseason,” Ranaan said. “Plan B appears to be ‘try to get the No. 1 overall pick,’ that appears dead too.”

Given the state of what has been perceived as a weak quarterback class, it seems the consensus is that Miami’s Cam Ward is in a tier of his own. It’s unclear how the Giants feel about Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, but they’ve heavily scouted the star quarterback dating back to last season.

Ward would be the ideal addition to Brian Daboll’s offense, and his arrival would bring some hope to the future of the organization. However, it appears the Titans hold a similar belief given their need to find a new quarterback as well.

The Giants have essentially forced themselves to take a rookie quarterback at some point in the draft next month, but it appears they’ll have to pivot from their ideal plan of acquiring the No. 1 overall pick.
