The NFL community is split on the biggest decision the New York Giants made in the 2025 NFL Draft.

After taking Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter at No. 3 overall, the Giants made the crucial decision to trade back into the first round for Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.

While some analysts can see the vision of Dart given his traits and leadership, others aren’t sold on the plan to pay a trio of Day 2 picks for a developmental prospect.

Pete Prisco of CBS Sports is in the latter group.

“I didn’t love the trade back into the first round to take quarterback Jaxson Dart. I understand why they did it, but I wouldn’t have done that for Dart. It reeked of panic,” Prisco wrote.

The other option the Giants could have considered was Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, who ultimately fell to the fifth round of the draft.

Dart will be brought along slowly, working behind starter Russell Wilson and backup Jameis Winston during OTAs and training camp. He’s essentially battling with Tommy DeVito for the QB3 role.

Whether this regime will be around to see the end of the development for Dart remains to be seen. The odds aren’t in their favor, though, coming off the first 14-loss season in franchise history.

The good news for Dart is that he won’t be forced to start right away. The Giants can bring him along at a pace they deem necessary, which could alleviate some of the stress that comes with being a first-round quarterback selection.

Only time will tell what that decision will turn into, but this will be one of the biggest storylines to track throughout the 2025 season.
