Coming off a campaign with the most losses in New York Giants franchise history, there was some surprise that the current regime was brought back.

The constant cycle of new head coaches and general managers every two years or so certainly played a part in John Mara’s decision to keep Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen around for a fourth consecutive season. However, neither will have a long leash in 2025.

In fact, Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report believes Daboll has the hottest seat among NFL coaches going into the season.

He hasn’t lost the locker room, though a third consecutive losing season could change that. He earned trust in his first season with the Giants, leading Big Blue to a 9-7-1 finish and a playoff appearance.

However, as an offensive coach, he has failed the team. The Giants have been one of the league’s lowest-scoring clubs over the last two years, ranking 30th and 31st in points in 2023 and 2024, respectively. Under Daboll, quarterback Daniel Jones regressed, losing his starting job and roster spot last November.

If the Giants have a slow start to the 2025 season, Daboll may not finish the campaign.

The Giants haven’t come close to replicating their efficient offensive play that helped them make a playoff berth and win a wild-card game against the Minnesota Vikings in 2022. In fact, the offense has gotten worse every season and while Daboll is a reason for that, he’s far from the biggest issue.

Having Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in the quarterback room won’t save Daboll’s job outright, but there’s enough upside with either of them to improve the offense to the point where Daboll gets a little longer leash.

With that said, a slow start is likely to doom Daboll’s chances of returning in 2026.
