The New York Rangers don’t have a ton of salary cap space to work with.
One way to solve that problem would be making a surprise trade, and K’Andre Miller’s name has come up in such an idea.
The Athletic’s NHL reporter James Mirtle writes, “Teams are saying New York could also shake up its blue line, with Miller and Carson Soucy potentially available.”
Miller has been a stalwart in New York’s defense for all five of his NHL seasons.
The Rangers picked him 22nd overall out of Wisconsin in 2018.
Miller made his NHL debut in 2020-21 and has played 368 games in Rangers colors.
He has 132 points in those games and has averaged 21 minutes, 27 seconds of ice time in his career.
Miller is currently a restricted free agent.
Mirtle points out that Chris Kreider has been on the trade block for “more than six months,” which both means he might be the guy the Rangers most want to move but also that other teams may not be that interested.
Maybe if the 6-foot-5, 25-year old Miller goes on the block, there’ll be a swifter movement from other teams to get a deal done and add a defenseman both for the present and the future.
