New Orleans Saints urged to sign 2 million free agent to ease QB issues with Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler

Derek Carr’s unexpected retirement has led the Saints to manage one of the more peculiar quarterback battles in recent memory. Jake Haener, Tyler Shough, and Spencer Rattler are all 26 or younger, with under 300 combined passes at the NFL level.

The unknown of the three is fascinating, but is the lack of experience in the room detrimental to their development?

The franchise could be content trotting out, trying to tank this year in the hopes of winning the Arch Manning sweepstakes, but the front office should prioritize evaluating the options that are currently in the building.

One analyst thinks the process starts by signing a recent Super Bowl champion to the roster.

In a recent piece, Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton suggested New Orleans should bring Carson Wentz into the fold.

“The Saints should add veteran competition to challenge the young candidates,” Moton wrote. “Wentz can push the young talent at the position. He could also provide a spark in the passing game with his big arm and ability to extend plays.”

On the surface, this is a tremendous pitch. The team should bring in an experienced signal-caller to help show his teammates the ropes with the idea that he’s there to help elevate their games.

That guy is just likely not Wentz, a notoriously subpar leader whose inability to anchor the locker room has cost him chances to be a starter in the league still.

If Wentz’s stint in Kansas City helped him change his ways, he should be welcomed with open arms, but perhaps trading for someone like Joe Flacco should be the Saints’ lean.
