Navarrete vs. Suarez and Muratalla vs. Abdullaev – Weigh-in Results for Saturday

Emanuel Navarrete (39-2-1, 32 KOs) came in overweight for his title defense of his WBO super featherweight title against Charly Suarez (18-0, 10 KOs) at today’s weigh-in for their headliner this Saturday, May 10, at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego. The vent will be shown live on ESPN and ESPN+ at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT.

Weigh-in Woes

Navarrete, 30, weighed in initially at 130.4 lbs. He then stripped down and weighed in at 130.3 lbs. He has two hours to lose the remaining.3 lbs to make the 130-lb limit if he’s to hold onto his WBO super featherweight title.

Weigh-in Results

– Emanuel Navarrete 130.3 vs. Charly Suarez 129.9
– Raymond Muratalla 134.4 vs. Zaur Abdullaev 134.6

In the co-feature weights, Raymond Muratalla (22-0, 17 KOs) and Zaur Abdullaev (20-1, 12 KOs) both successfully weighed in for their 12-round fight for the IBF interim lightweight title. The winner of this fight could either be elevated to the full IBF championship status or fight the current champion, Vasily Lomachenko, if he chooses to come back from his injury.

“Charly Suarez, he’s definitely a super dangerous fighter. His record is 18-0 with 10 knockouts,” said Bruce Carrington to Top Rank Boxing, reacting to Charley Suarez and Emanuel Navarrete weighing in. “A few guys have been able to solve the Navarrete puzzle. Let’s see what Charly Suarez is able to do Navarrete is a professional. Hopefully, he does what he needs to do to make this fight happen.”

Navarrete’s Weight Struggle

It’s not all that surprising that Navarrete missed weight because he’s been struggling to make the 130-lb limit for a while now. His midsection has looked soft, which suggests that he’s been eating well in between fights. He’s likely been enjoying the money he’d made over the years, and is now paying the price with his problems getting down in weight.

“Myself, I win this fight no matter what happens,” said Suarez when asked about his reaction to Navarrete missing weight. “This is my opportunity. It’s once in a lifetime, and I will do my best. I’m excited. I prayed for this for many months, and this is it. This thing has come to me right now.”
