Mo Salah shares joke with media as he’s last to leave pitch after making Liverpool return in win over Brighton

MOHAMED SALAH joked: “Two weeks in a row?” in the media mixed zone a week on from his stunning interview.

Following Liverpool‘s 3-3 draw with Leeds last Saturday, Salah gave a rare interview to the media where he then dropped the bombshell that his relationship with manager Arne Slot was broken and said he felt he had been thrown under the bus by the club.

Salah was subsequently dropped from the Reds squad which travelled to San Siro and beat Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League.

However, crunch talks with Slot on Friday saw Salah return to the squad for yesterday’s match with Brighton.

And the 33-year-old climbed off the bench as a replacement for the injured Joe Gomez in the first half to then grab an assist for Hugo Ekitike‘s second goal in a vital 2-0 win for Liverpool.

It was Salah’s final Liverpool game before he leaves to link up with the Egypt national team ahead of the African Cup of Nations.

His undermining of both the manager and club bosses had led to speculation he could be on the way out at Anfield, with Jamie Carragher – who yesterday took aim at Rio Ferdinand – chief among his critics.

However, Salah saw his name roared out loud by the raucous home crowd as he walked around the stadium.

He was the last man to leave the pitch as he soaked up the atmosphere with his future at the club in doubt.

Regardless, he appeared to be in far greater spirits as he walked through the mixed zone following the game.

And while this time he did not stop to give reporters another earth-shattering interview, he did share a joke with them.

As he walked past, closely watched by the club’s press officer who had been powerless to stop him seven days prior, he jokingly declined to offer any comments this week.

While smiling he was heard saying: “Two weeks in a row? No.”

The assist Salah picked up in the game moved him on to 277 league goals and assists for Liverpool, putting him ahead of Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney as the outright leader for the record of most goal contributions for a single club in the Premier League.

Slot was asked what was spoken about between them during their meeting, but the Dutchman denied to spill details of the discussion.

He told Sky Sports: “What’s been said between the two of us, I’ve said many times, for me that stays between us.”

The final of Afcon is January 18, meaning if Salah’s Egypt make the final Liverpool will be without their talisman – albeit who has been a shadow of the star seen in previous seasons – for over a month.

Salah has been to two Afcon finals with the Pharaohs, but tasted defeat both times.

The first came in 2017 against Cameroon with Salah still at Roma, while the second was in 2021 when Egypt lost on penalties against Senegal – with then Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane scoring the decisive penalty kick.
