Promoter Frank Warren confirmed last Saturday night that the British veterans Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora will meet for a trilogy clash on December 13, 2025, at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England.
Whyte vs. Chisora 3 will headline on DAZN PPV. The price has yet to be determined, but it may be £24.95 for UK fans and $59.99 for U.S. fans.
Fans Slam the Money Grab
Fans on social media are hostile to the idea of a trilogy between Whyte and Derek, viewing it as a pathetic money grab. They’d rather see them retire and put out to pasture permanently or to the glue factory. Neither of them has beaten a top name in many years. It’s no longer sporting for either to be used as a trial horse for the youngsters.
Both of these quite wealthy, millionaire journeymen heavyweights have made an excellent living as the B-opponents of the division’s top names for many years. Unfortunately, they’ve lost too much from their games due to their advanced ages and ring wear to be useful for headlining purposes.
“Chisora against Whyte is done and dusted. We’ve got a couple of bits to sort out, but I’ll sort them out,” said promoter Frank Warren to The Ring, confirming that the Derek Chisora vs. Dillian Whyte trilogy will be happening next.
Chisora’s Farewell—or Not?
It’s a fight more about nostalgia than about having a bearing on the division. The 41-year-old Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) is expected to retire after this fight. That’s far from certain, though; it’s potentially at least Chisora’s final fight. If he keeps getting well-paying headliner gigs given to him by his promoter, he’s not going anywhere.
Whyte (31-4, 21 KOs) has a perfect 2-0 record against Chisora in their two matches. In their first fight on December 10, 2016, Dillian defeated Chisora by a questionable 12-round split decision. The scores were 115-113, 115-114 for Whyte, and 115-114 for Chisora. Many boxing fans felt that Derek had done enough to deserve the victory.
In the rematch, Whyte scored an 11th-round knockout. At the time of the stoppage, Chisora was ahead 95-94, 95-94 on two of the judges’ scorecards, and one judge had it as Whyte up 95-94.
Olly Campbell’s Viewpoint
Chisora-Whyte 3 is pure nostalgia monetized with a likely staggering price tag that doesn’t fit the entertainment value the fight will provide to the average fan. If this were a free fight on DAZN, it wouldn’t be quite as bad. But at this point, these two don’t belong in the main event on a PPV card. Trotting them out at this stage of their careers is off-putting.
The fight reeks as a hustle with two millionaire warhorses, both long washed up, getting a final payday on DAZN. In their primes, they were decent to watch, but far from spectacular. They were more interesting outside of the ring than in it.
Both fighters are rich beyond belief despite never winning world titles. Fans would be shocked at the millions Whyte and Chisora have made as opponents for Tyson Fury, and in Dillian’s case, Anthony Joshua.
