Mikel Arteta confirms major change to Emirates Stadium to intimidate Arsenal opponents that was ‘non-negotiatable’

MIKEL ARTETA is on a mission to improve the atmosphere at Arsenal and ready to use every trick in the book to help the team.

The Spanish manager is planning to invite RAF fighter pilots to the club so they can talk about communicating under pressure.

And in the summer, Arteta asked the club to remove the pull-out cover from the players’ tunnel at the Emirates Stadium.

He believed the cover muffled the crowd noise and reduced the intimidating atmosphere for visiting teams.

Asked about the tunnel change, Arteta said: “As a club, we have the ambition to generate the best atmosphere in the world at the Emirates.

“We have the best supporters in the world and now we have to facilitate everything.

“We need to ignite the atmosphere so they can play every single ball with us because it makes such a difference.

“We want to play and win things.

“That’s a non-negotiable.

“You need to have a stadium that is able to create those moments for sure.

“We can learn and take things from many clubs and in Europe there are some great examples as well.”

Arsenal have just torn up their bottle jobs tag, look out Liverpool – they mean business

The North Londoners beat Leeds and Nottingham Forest 5-0 and 3-0 at the Emirates before a 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Following their European night, Arteta’s side then play West Ham in the Premier League at the weekend.

Arsenal ratings v Newcastle

ARSENAL came back from the death to snatch what could be a massive three points come the end of the season.

Gabriel was the goal hero with his injury-time header in the 2-1 win.

But who else shone at St James’ Park – and who had a day to forget, despite the result?

Here’s how SunSport’s Gary Stonehouse rated the Arsenal players on Sunday afternoon.
