Mike Evans makes bold statement about Buccaneers’ first-round rookie wide receiver

Mike Evans has become a veteran leader in the Tampa Bay locker room.

The 31-year-old is the model of consistency, posting 11 straight seasons of 1,000 yards or more which ties Jerry Rice for the NFL record.

He’s now tasked with the challenge of mentoring younger players, like rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka.

The former Ohio State star was drafted 19th overall by Tampa Bay and is projected to slot in alongside Evans and Chris Godwin in the Buccaneers’ offense.

Through just a few months the group seems to be meshing perfectly.

Evans was asked during media availability what he likes about his fellow wideouts.

“This might be the best receiver room I’ve been a part of,” the Super Bowl champion said.

“Emeka has really strong hands, super smart. … He looks like a running back, but he catches like Chris Godwin. He’s a very polished, very well-rounded player,” Evans added.

It’s a strong statement from Evans who has seen 11 different iterations of receiver rooms in his time with the Bucs.

His co-sign of Egbuka shouldn’t be taken lightly either. The rookie’s strong frame and high IQ should blend perfectly with the strengths of his teammates.

#Bucs WR Mike Evans believes this is the best wide receiver room that he has been a part of in his career. He added that rookie WRs Emeka Egbuka and Tez Johnson are already polished.

In particular, Evans said that Egbuka “looks like a running back but catches like Chris Godwin.” pic.twitter.com/Gsu9Imsb6x

Evans acknowledged that he “says it a lot” in regards to positive sentiments for his fellow wideouts. Still, it’s a good sign that the new group is getting along and showing they can be productive in the early part of the NFL calendar.

Now let’s see if it transitions to the games that count.
