The Mets added a left-handed bullpen option on Wednesday, signing 28-year-old Genesis Cabrera to a minor league deal with an invitation to big league spring training.

The southpaw began his career with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2019 and was eventually traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in July 2023.

Cabrera has solid career numbers, with a 3.89 ERA and 8.7 strikeouts per nine innings in 272 appearances, and he’s been equally impressive against righties and lefties, holding right-handers to a .232 average, while lefties have hit just .230 against him.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Cabrera will have a chance to make the Opening Day Roster. Danny Young is currently the only Mets left-handed reliver under contract for next season, with fellow lefty Alex Young non-tendered by the club and Brooks Raley a free agent.
