The Mets appear to be close to getting a massive boost in the middle of their lineup.
Juan Soto told reporters including Anthony DiComo of MLB.com on Friday afternoon at Citi Field that he’s just about ready to make his highly-anticipated return from the injured list.
Interim manager Andy Green shared pregame Friday that Soto is going through another work day, and the team is going to wait and see how he feels Saturday before deciding on his next step.
Soto told DiComo himself that he doesn’t anticipate needing a rehab assignment.
The star outfielder has been sidelined since late-July due to a left calf strain suffered in a game against the Dodgers.
He also missed time with a right calf strain earlier this season.
Even with the Mets way out of the playoff race, Green said that Soto has been “getting after it” over the past couple of days with hopes of returning as soon as possible.
Despite just dropping a series to the Brewers, the club has been playing much better of late.
Soto was in the midst of another spectacular offensive season before going down with the injury, hitting .283 with 21 home runs and a .947 OPS across 84 games.
