Mets outfielder Jose Siri will indeed land on the IL after an additional MRI on Monday afternoon revealed that he has suffered a fractured tibia.

Siri has been in significant pain over the past few days since fouling a ball off of his left shin on the first pitch of his at-bat in the second inning during Saturday’s game against the Athletics.

The speedster remained down for some time before being helped to the dugout — the injury was initially called a shin contusion — but after the pain continued into Monday the Mets sent him for further imaging which unfortunately confirmed the worst.

“It’s not really surprising,” Carlos Mendoza said. “Seeing how much pain he was going through and watching him walk, he could barely put any weight on it — that’s why we sent him for the MRI today and that’s what it showed.”

There’s currently no timeline for a return, and the skipper expects it will be a while.

Siri’s gotten off to a bit of a slow start offensively, but he’s still made his mark over his first few games this season, thanks to his aggressiveness on the bases and strong outfield defense.

The Mets still haven’t discussed who may come up to take his place on the roster, but they feel good about their current options and Tyrone Taylor is expected to take on the bulk of the workload.

“Tyrone will continue to get a lot of opportunities,” Mendoza said. “We’ll prepare [Jesse] Winker to get more and obviously [Starling] Marte, so we feel good with our outfield depth. It’s unfortunate for Siri, but we like what we have here.”

Mendoza also mentioned pregame that he told Luisangel Acuña to take some reps in center during batting practice after completing his infield work.

The youngster hasn’t played the position in the majors just yet, but he has see plenty of time in the minors over the past few seasons.
