D’Andre Smith with just about the most heroic hit you can have at this point in the season. Down one in the bottom of the ninth with one out, Zack Short worked a walk as the tying run. Smith followed that up with a two-run walkoff homer, keeping the Syracuse season alive. Smith made a stellar play earlier in the game that deserves mention as well, a diving catch in center with the bases loaded that kept the Mets ahead (at the time) in the fifth inning. An all around incredible performance on both sides of the ball, and at a position he’s learning on the fly to boot. The Mets remain a half game back of Rochester in the playoff hunt with one game left to play, and it’ll all come down to Sunday’s regular season finale.
