Meet Jim Irsay’s daughters: What to know about future of Colts ownership after sudden death

The sudden passing of longtime Colts owner Jim Irsay has sent shockwaves throughout the sports world.

Irsay died at 65, leaving behind a legacy of over 40 years working with the Colts organization. He became the franchise’s owner at 37 years old, succeeding his father, Robert, who died in 1997.

28 years later, Jim Irsay’s death places the franchise in a similar position, with ownership of the franchise being transferred to Irsay’s daughters. The transition should be relatively organic, as each daughter has had a role with the franchise for over a decade.

Jim Irsay’s daughters

Irsay has three daughters: Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt, and Kalen Jackson. Irsay-Gordon “will primarily take charge of the football side of the franchise after years spent preparing to take over for her father,” according to the Indianapolis Star.

In 2012, Irsay’s three daughters were announced as co-owners of the franchise, and they have long represented the Colts at NFL ownership meetings.

Here is more on each of his children.

Carlie Irsay-Gordon

Irsay-Gordon, 44, is the oldest of Jim Irsay’s daughters. She began her career in the Colts’ football and marketing departments. Since 2004, she has represented the franchise at ownership meetings.

She was made a vice president of the organization in 2008. Irsay-Gordon has also held a role working with a group that oversees the operations of the NFL Network and NFL.com.

Irsay-Gordon and her husband, Zach Gordon, have three children.

Casey Foyt

Foyt is Jim Irsay’s middle daughter. She is an alumna of Indiana University, where she graduated with a sports marketing degree.

She began her career in sports by working for the NFL in London before joining the Colts organization in 2007 in a role that “focuses her energy on marketing and community relations.”

Foyt and her husband, former IndyCar driver A.J. Foyt. IV, have five children.

Kalen Jackson

Jackson is Jim Irsay’s youngest daughter and graduated from Indiana University with a degree in sports management and marketing in 2010.

Among her many responsibilities, Jackson coordinates the Irsay family’s community and philanthropic efforts. She is also president of the Indianapolis Colts Women’s Organization and serves on the league’s Employee Benefits Committee.

“Change will happen when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.”

Foyt family

Irsay’s middle daughter, Casey, married into one of the most famous families in racing.

Her husband, A.J. Foyt IV, is the grandson of famous IndyCar driver A.J. Foyt Jr.

A.J. Foyt

Born in 1935, A.J. Foyt Jr. is one of the most notable names in motorsport history.

Foyt has over a dozen major victories, highlighted by four Indianapolis 500 wins, a 1967 win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a 1972 win at the Daytona 500 and four wins at the Pocono 500.

He is one of just four drivers to win the Indianapolis 500 four times and is the oldest living winner.

A.J. Foyt IV

Born in 1984, A.J. Foyt IV is the grandson of four-time Indianapolis 500 winner A.J. Foyt Jr.

He began his racing career at an early age and was both an IndyCar Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series driver. He ran in 84 IndyCar Series races over seven years and 11 NASCAR Xfinity Series races over two years, but did not earn any wins.

After his racing career ended in 2010, A.J. Foyt IV joined the Colts as a scouting assistant, a title he still holds to this day.
