Meet England Golf’s New President Elect

England Golf is delighted to announce that Patrick Cunningham has formally accepted the invitation to become England Golf President Elect in 2026 and President in 2027.

Patrick, who worked in the construction and marine industry for over 30 years, has enjoyed roles within England Golf since 1999, including 10 years on the Club Services Committee, initiating and producing the first survey for independent golfers which led to the now very popular iGolf initiative.

He also represented the national governing body at a drought hearing in 2012, liaising with water companies and the Environment Agency, producing a detailed report on the importance of water for the future.

The single-figure golfer currently sits on the Nominations Committee, the Sustainability Committee and chairs the Voting Members.

He was also part of the Centenary Committee, having previously been Chair of Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club’s 125th celebrations, as well as helping Portmarnock Golf Club in Ireland with their 125th celebrations.

Patrick is the current President of the Artisan Golfers’ Association (AGA), having been involved with the organisation since 1989, and is also the President of the National Association of Public and Proprietary Golf Clubs (NAPGC), another organisation he has been part of since 2004.

He took over the NAPGC President’s role from England Golf Hall of Famer, Peter Alliss. A proud member of Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club, Patrick has served as a member on the Captains’ Committee for 10 years and organised the running of The Antlers over a period of 20 years.

PLAYING HONOURS

Having previously held a handicap as low as +3, Patrick played for Surrey Golf, including being Captain of the Surrey Seniors for many years.

He won the World Corporate Games Scratch Golf category and the Amateur World Left-Handed Championship in the 1990s and he has broken the course record at six golf clubs, including at Royal Mid-Surrey, which he still holds today. The score was a gross 62 off the back tees.

He has also played in The Antlers for 21 consecutive years, finishing 3rd three times, and played in the winning Surrey Seniors team of the Southeast Foursomes in 2013, beating Kent in the final.

Upon accepting the invitation to be President, Patrick said: “I am highly honoured to accept the appointment of President Elect for 2026 and President of England Golf for 2027 and I would like to thank the past Presidents and the Board of England Golf for their support.

“I look forward to taking on this prestigious role and continuing to promote golf for all, especially juniors, who are our future.”
