Marseille vs PSG postponed and immediately rescheduled with stars now unable to attend Ballon d’Or ceremony

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN’S clash with Marseille has been postponed to tomorrow evening, meaning that it will now clash with the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

Dubbed “Le Classique”, match-ups between Marseille and PSG are the most hotly-anticipated in French football.

The two sides were meant to do battle at Stade Velodrome at 7:45pm BST this evening.

But due to extreme weather conditions in the South of France, authorities have opted to postpone the match by nearly 24 hours.

Weather forecasters claim that there will be heavy showers and storms this evening, making the pitch unplayable and travel for fans a safety hazard.

The French football authority (LFP) has decided that the game will instead kick off at 7pm BST on Monday – the same time as the Ballon d’Or ceremony back in Paris.

This means that as the glitzy bash gets underway at the plush Theatre du Chatelet in the French capital, PSG stars will be on the pitch around 500 miles away in Marseille.

PSG have eight players nominated for the men’s Ballon d’Or award, in addition to their former star Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Of these, Ousmane Dembele is the front-runner to win the prestigious gong.

Unlike some of his team-mates, Dembele may still be able to attend the ceremony.

That’s because the winger is recovering from a hamstring injury suffered on international duty last month.

Dembele, 28, may be joined at the ceremony by team-mates Desire Doue and Joao Neves, who are both also out with injury.

Fellow nominees Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz, however, will likely be in action at the Velodrome.

Boss Luis Enrique is also among the five nominees for the coach of the year award, alongside Antonio Conte, Arne Slot, Enzo Maresca and Hansi Flick.

In addition to their individual nominations, PSG are up for Men’s Club of the Year.

Enrique’s men are top of Ligue 1 having won four games out of four so far this season.

On Wednesday they opened their Champions League title defence with a 4-0 win over Atalanta at Parc des Princes.

Marseille, meanwhile, were unlucky to lose 2-1 at Real Madrid in mid-week.
