Mark Andrews trade pitch would send Ravens star to rising AFC contender

Mark Andrews trade pitch would send Ravens star to rising AFC contender

Mark Andrews has been one of the best tight ends in the NFL for several seasons now and a key member of the Baltimore Ravens’ offense.

The longtime Raven has made three Pro Bowls in seven years and earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2021. However, the tight end’s 2024 season ended terribly, as Andrews dropped the game-tying two-point conversion against the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the playoffs.

That drop, which ended the Ravens’ season, has left a bad taste in many fans’ mouths. Additionally, the Ravens could save around $11 million by moving on from the veteran this offseason, making a trade possible.

Jeff Zrebiec of the Athletic recently reported that the Ravens won’t release Andrews but would trade him if they receive a “legit offer.”

Meanwhile, David Latham of LWOS has identified the Los Angeles Chargers as a logical landing spot if Andrews is indeed traded. Regarding Andrews and the Chargers, Latham offered the following:

The Los Angeles Chargers have improved their roster in free agency, but they still need to add some pass catchers. Ladd McConkey had a strong rookie season, but the rest of the wide receivers and tight ends leave something to be desired. Mike Williams looked washed up last year, and he’s the only major addition to Justin Herbert’s arsenal so far. While wide receiver is probably the bigger need, the Chargers could also trade with the Ravens for Mark Andrews and land a tight end who could immediately become the second option in this passing attack.

In 2024, Andrews caught 55 passes for 673 yards and 11 touchdowns. The tight end earned an elite 83.8 Pro Football Focus grade, which ranked fourth among 37 qualified tight ends.

The Chargers can certainly use an upgrade at the tight end position this offseason. Will Dissly is the team’s current starter, but Dissly is just an average player and not the difference-maker Jim Harbaugh needs in his offense.

Andrews not only holds his own as a blocker, but also presents one of the best pass-catching options at the position in the league. Andrews has surpassed 800 receiving yards in three separate seasons and has twice caught double-digit touchdown passes.

Another factor that could make Andrews a fit in Los Angeles is the Harbaugh connection. Andrews has spent his entire career playing under John Harbaugh, so it’s likely that Jim Harbaugh is familiar with the tight end as well.

Andrews has one year remaining on his contract and is set to enter free agency in 2026. In 2025, Andrews is carrying a cap hit of just under $17 million.

Over the Cap has the Chargers currently sitting at around $58 million in cap space, so the team could easily accommodate the veteran. The Ravens, meanwhile, are projected to only have around $11 million in cap space, so trading the veteran would give the team more flexibility.
