MARC GUEHI will reject any contract offer from Crystal Palace after his failed move to Liverpool.

Chairman Steve Parish said that there needed to be a conclusion to Guehi’s situation this summer – either a sale or a new contract.

But any new terms offered to the defender will be rejected.

Guehi, 25, has one year left on his deal and intends to leave on a free transfer next summer.

Liverpool will undoubtedly be a serious contender once more, but being a free agent interest is expected from across the Premier League and Europe.

Arsenal have monitored the former Chelsea man in the past, while Real Madrid and Barcelona could also be options.

Guehi has never refused to play and there are no concerns over his attitude across the season.

Liverpool agreed a £35million deal with Palace and the England defender had even undergone a medical before the plug was pulled.

The club had also prepared a farewell video which was leaked on social media.

Brighton defender Igor Julio was targeted as a replacement but ended up moving to West Ham.

After heated talks between manager Oliver Glasner and Parish the decision was made not to proceed with the deal at a late stage.

There were fears within the club that had the captain been allowed to leave Glasner could have walked.

Inside Guehi’s collapsed Liverpool transfer after Glasner power struggle

OLIVER GLASNER has won his battle with Steve Parish over captain Marc Guehi.

The most successful manager in Crystal Palace history slammed his foot down and demanded that he did not lose his skipper this late in the window.

Glasner made it abundantly clear in public that he wanted Guehi to stay following the win over Aston Villa.

Within the club some feared he could even walk if the defender was sold.

Off the back of the FA Cup win in May and the victory over Liverpool in the Community Shield, this is the prime time for Glasner to throw his weight around.

Not that Palace did not try to land a fee for Guehi, who could now leave for nothing in a year’s time.

While Palace have kept Guehi, they have been hit with a treble injury blow.

Adam Wharton has withdrawn from the England squad and is facing up to two months out with a groin injury. The midfielder missed three months after groin surgery last season.

Ismaila Sarr faces around a month out with a grade two hamstring tear and has withdrawn from the Senegal squad while new signing Yeremy Pino has returned from the Spain squad following ankle discomfort.
