Rashford ‘set to return to Man Utd squad

Marcus Rashford is at Old Trafford ahead of the match against Newcastle.

The forward missed the last four Manchester United matchday squads but appears to be back in the frame.

He was first axed for the short trip to Manchester City, with United winning 2-1 after staging a late comeback.

Amorim explained his absence was due to tactical reasons, with Alejandro Garnacho also dropped for that match.

Garnacho was back the next match, a 4-3 defeat to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, but Rashford was still absent.

The 27-year-old was then left out of back-to-back defeats against Bournemouth and Wolves.

But with United struggling without Rashford, Amorim appears to have handed him another chance.

The Red Devils are without suspended captain Bruno Fernandes tonight, with another forward player Mason Mount an injury absentee yet again.

Amorim explained it was his decision to exile Rashford as he warned his players about maintaining standards.

Man Utd team news

Man Utd will be without their captain, Bruno Fernandes, after he picked up two yellow cards during the 2-0 defeat at Wolves.

Manuel Ugarte is also suspended after he received his fifth booking of the season last time out.

Victor Lindelof, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw all remain unavailable due to injury.

Good evening and welcome to SunSport’s live blog of Man Utd vs Newcastle!

Both sides will be looking to sign off 2024 with a huge win, but Man Utd are certainly the more desperate for the three points.

The Red Devils have lost four of their last five games, with their only win coming in the Manchester derby.

Ruben Amorim has struggled to find consistency with the group of players at his disposal since he arrived from Sporting back in November.

He will be hoping he can end the year on a high, but his side face a mammoth task against in-form Newcastle.

The Toon are flying of late – winning their last three Premier League games and scoring 11 goals in the process.

Eddie Howes’ Magpies are right back in the conversation for Champions League football and will be looking to apply further pressure on those precious top 4 places this evening.
