Man Utd U21s clash ABANDONED after Sekou Kone, 19, is stretchered off in worrying scenes with ambulance needed

MANCHESTER UNITED U21s have seen their match ABANDONED after Sekou Kone picked up a horror injury.

The Red Devils were playing fifth tier side Tamworth in the National League Cup tonight.

Man Utd youngster Kone suffered a worrying head injury in the first-half after clattering into a Tamworth player.

The midfielder initially stood up following the collision but then dropped to the deck.

Medics rushed over to attend to the 19-year-old and the match was suspended at first.

Kone got treatment on the pitch for some time before eventually leaving the field on a stretcher.

A mask was placed over his face as he was being carried off.

Kone made his way into an ambulance where the treatment continued.

The referee then made the decision to abandon the match.

MEN report that a “replacement ambulance” was needed and the delay forced the fixture to be called off.

A Tamworth statement added: “Due to the medical situation, we are forced to abandon tonight’s fixture, details will be revealed in due course.

“We would like to wish safe travels to all the Man Utd fans, staff and players.

“We especially wish Sekou Kone a speedy recovery.”

Worried fans said on social media: “Prayers for Sekou Kone.”

Another added: “Sending our best wishes.”

United later put out an update saying Kone is “conscious, stable and communicating with United’s medical team”.

It added: “He has been taken to hospital for further checks as a precaution.”

Kone is a highly-rated star who joined Man Utd last summer in a deal worth £1million.

The Malian wonderkid has been dubbed the “next Yaya Toure”.

Kone came to Man Utd’s attention after impressing at the 2023 U17 World Cup as his nation came third.

He is yet to make his senior debut for the Red Devils, but he played 14 times for the U21s last season.
