Bruno Fernandes has said he would always choose Cristiano Ronaldo to take a decisive penalty.

He explained: “If you probably ask anyone in the world, who will you choose to take your penalty at the 90th minute and to save your life, most of the people would say Cristiano.

Learning from the best

Bruno Fernandes has revealed he discusses penalty taking with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Fernandes said: “When we go to the national team, I’m always having shots with Cristiano to understand the way he does it. We speak a lot.

“He sometimes asks me what I think about the goalkeeper and everything.

“Even Cristiano, if you see him now is different now from the past.

“If I see the penalty from Cristiano against Chelsea in the final of the Champions League [in 2008] and the ones that he takes after that, he is changing his way of kicking and now he’s changing again.

“So you are always having to adapt yourself to the game because things change quickly. People get to know you better and better.”

“For me, and I believe for my team-mates as well, it’s a privilege and an honour to have him here in the national team, and to be able to share moments with him.

“To absorb some of his experience, the extraordinary career he has built.

“There’s always that feeling of wanting to see him win major competitions with Portugal.

“The passion and love he has shown for our country cannot be questioned.”
