Rooney promoted
Kai Rooney has received a last-minute call-up to Manchester United’s Under-19 squad for a prestigious tournament in Croatia.
The 15-year-old forward impressed during the Under-16’s run to the final of the youth Super Cup NI – more commonly known to fans as the Milk Cup.
Kai, who can operate both on the wing and as a No9 like his dad Wayne, scored and assisted in United’s opening game in Northern Ireland.
He played a starring role as United went undefeated in their group before losing 1-0 to Southampton Under-16s in Sunday’s final at the Coleraine Showgrounds.
Wayne and Coleen were in the crowd as Saints wonderkid Jude Daniels stole the glory before whipping out Wazza’s famous knockout celebration.
But despite being on summer break from school, Kai has been invited to compete in an international tournament against opponents three years his senior.
The teen has travelled with United’s Under-19 squad to face Europe’s finest academy sides in the Mladen Ramljak Tournament in Croatia.
The young Red Devils have been placed in Group B with Juventus, Rapid Bucuresti and Dinamo Zagreb.
Fiorentina’s form

Fernandes’ message
Bruno Fernandes has sent a message to David de Gea ahead of his return to Old Trafford this weekend.
The goalkeeper with rock back up to his old stomping ground as Fiorentina take on Manchester United in a pre-season friendly.
Fernandes said: “David, my friend, I can’t wait to see you at the Snapdragon Cup.
“I hope you enjoy being back at Old Trafford, to see your fans, your house, your home.
“At the same time, I hope I score some goals against you and we enjoy the day together!

Third kit release date
Manchester United have confirmed the release date of their third kit for the 2025/26 campaign.
The adidas strip will be released on August 12, next Tuesday.
Gueye talks
West Ham are reportedly progressing with talks to sign Manchester United target Idrissa Gueye from Metz.
The striker, 18, is highly rated and has been linked with the likes of the Red Devils and Borussia Dortmund.
But reports in France suggest that the Hammers are leading the race with a £12million move.
Last term, he scored five goals in 20 appearances in Ligue 2.
