Amorim discusses goalkeeper situation
Ruben Amorim has discussed who will start in goal against Lyon after Andre Onana was dropped against Newcastle.
He said: “We are going to prepare to choose the best XI that we think can win.
“I left him [Onana] at home [today] because any situation of the game, the cameras would be on him and he was not playing, he [would be] on the bench but feeling the pressure, feeling the moment.
“So, for me, it was one thing or another – you play or you stay at home. It was my choice.”
Neville highlights ‘biggest worry’
Gary Neville feels Manchester United players are currently ‘giving it their’ all, but that is his biggest worry as their best efforts are so far short of good enough.
He told NBC Sports: “They’re not a very good team, simple as that.
“The biggest worry is that there have been teams in the past five, six, seven years at United where you’ve thought they are very talented players but they’re not really giving it their all.
“The problem with this group of players is that they’re giving it their all, I don’t think there’s a lack of effort.
“They’re so below the standard and quality that you need at that football club, all over the pitch. Other than Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo maybe, I can’t think of any of them that I’d hang my hat on.
“It’s a really desperate situation because the squad is so poor in quality. They’ve got old players, they’ve got young players who are nowhere near it. Then they’ve got a group of players in the middle who are…it’s a worrying situation.”
Fernandes should call out team-mates
Roy Keane has demanded a strong response from Manchester United’s captain after the defeat to Newcastle.
Bruno Fernandes said that he was “frustrated” by his team-mates and their poor display at St James’ Park.
But Keane wants him to take a hardline approach, especially in dealing with Diogo Dalot who made mistakes in defence.
The pundit said: “To be fair to Bruno Fernandes he fronts up but to me it’s just soundbites now.
“He was talking about his team-mates and belief but what about his right-back Dalot who didn’t put a leg out to tackle?
“I hope he is pulling him in the dressing room because he keeps talking about having belief in his teammates but real good teammates put demands on each other.”
