MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly slashed the asking price for Kobbie Mainoo ahead of transfer deadline day.
The midfielder is open to a fresh start away from Old Trafford to gain more game time.
Mainoo, 20, was previously valued at £70MILLION by United when they received an enquiry from Chelsea in January.
The Athletic have now claimed that the Red Devils would be willing to accept a fee much lower.
The outlet believes that United would accept an offer in the region of £45million.
This is to facilitate a deal before the transfer window closes on September 1 at 7pm.
The fall from favour at United has left the midfielder’s camp “dumbfounded”.
It is suggested that there has been a “lack of communication” from manager Ruben Amorim towards Mainoo.
Amorim is said to have instructed his squad to “train hard and earn their spot” rather than provide “specific instructions” to players.
This has seen Casemiro jump ahead of Mainoo in the pecking order despite previously appearing to be a fringe player.
The report has also added that Mainoo would prefer a move away from the Premier League over a switch to a domestic rival.
The England international has explored options in Germany’s Bundesliga.
He has previously been reported to have interest from champions Bayern Munich.
A potential move that would reunite him with Three Lions captain Harry Kane.
Real Madrid have also been reportedly keeping tabs on Mainoo’s situation at Old Trafford.
It has also been claimed that there could be as many as EIGHT other clubs keen on his signature.
Mainoo is yet to make an appearance this season, having been left on the bench for the matches against Arsenal and Fulham.
He first majorly broke into the United team back in the 2023/24 season and has since made 72 first-team appearances.
He has scored seven times for the club, including what turned out to be the eventual FA Cup-winning goal in 2024.
