JOSHUA ZIRKZEE is being lined up for a possible move to Como in January.
Despite reports, no agreement has been struck for the Dutch striker to join Cesc Fabregas’ side.
But United would consider a sale or loan move in the winter window.
Zirkzee, one of Erik ten Hag’s final signings, joined for £36.5million after his 11 goals helped Bologna qualify for their first ever Champions League campaign in the 2023/ 2024 season.
But now the 24-year-old forward could be set to return to Serie A after moving to Manchester 14 months ago.
Mid-table side Como are monitoring a move for Zirkzee, while Juventus could re-enter the race again after registering an interest in the summer.
Zirkzee has been identified as the right profile fit for the type of project that former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Fabregas is rolling out.
The Netherlands international is under contract with United until 2029 and has made all four of his appearances from the bench this season.
He has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 53 appearances for United
Italian sides have already come to United’s rescue in recent years.
Napoli agreed to a deadline day deal with an obligation to buy Rasmus Hojlund, who was deemed surplus to requirements.
Antonio Conte’s club also bought Scott McTominay in the summer of 2023, whose Serie A Player of the Year award last season earned the Scot a Ballon d’Or nod.
During the last January window, Ruben Amorim revealed his desire to retain Zirkzee at the club.
Amorim told talkSPORT: “I want to keep Josh because he gives everything and he’s trying in training, but we don’t know what will happen.”
Despite Amorim’s glowing praise, the striker has found it difficult to secure a regular spot in United’s starting lineup.
