Man Utd meet Matheus Cunha’s £62.5million release clause to leave 26-year-old on brink of transfer exit from Wolves

MANCHESTER UNITED have finally agreed terms for the transfer of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.

The Red Devils have maintained a strong interest in the 26-year-old since January and made plans to pursue a deal earlier this month.

They opened talks with fellow Premier League side Wolves about triggering his release clause on Tuesday, but were initially knocked back.

Club officials first proposed the idea of paying Cunha’s £62.5million release clause over a five year period, but Wolves made it clear that they wanted it paid in full by the end of the 2026-27 season.

Following additional discussions, it is understood that both clubs are now on the same page and a deal has officially been struck.

Man Utd have now been given permission to speak to Cunha himself.

The forward is believed to be keen on the prospect of a move to Old Trafford.

Cunha signed a new Wolves contract – which included the new release clause – in February after receiving interest from both Arsenal and United.

He bid farewell to fans at Molineux on Sunday after the final match of the season.

The Brazilian also left some incredible gifts for his closest team-mates.

Joao Gomes and Andre both received a Rolex watch from Cunha.

He also left a message which read: “Thank you for all the moments, you will always be in my heart.

“I will always be in love with you and your family. I love you.”

Cunha is expected to take the No10 shirt at Man Utd – previously worn by Marcus Rashford, who is likely to leave.
