WAYNE ROONEY has lifted the lid on how his honeymoon with wife Coleen ended up at a McDonald’s drive-thru in a shopping trolley.

The Manchester United legend and Coleen, both 39, tied the knot back in 2008 during a lavish ceremony in Portofino, Italy, but their honeymoon was far less fancy – heading out boozing in Las Vegas.

Speaking on his new BBC podcast, the Wayne Rooney Show, Wazza recalled ending a night of heavy drinking at 7am with a craving for a burger.

The 120-time England international said: “We went to McDonald’s, it was about 7am.

“As we’re going the McDonald’s was closed, so you could only go through the Drive-Thru.

“So I was actually pushing her [Coleen] in a shopping trolley. So you’ve got a car in front, you’ve got me with Coleen in a shopping trolley, and then a car behind us.

“So we’re going through the drive-thru with this shopping trolley.”

Rooney admitted he had a few drinks, recalling it was a “boss night”.

It wasn’t the only unusual part of the evening either, as the ex-Everton star had also run into the US Men’s Olympic basketball team.

He recalled: “The US Olympic Basketball team came into this bar where we was.

“It was all cornered off and whatever, so they were all there, like Kobe Bryant was there, LeBron [James].

“So because I’d spoken to him a few times, I went over to say hello.

Wayne Rooney reveals gang of masked thugs turned up at his home after row with Sir Alex Ferguson over Man Utd exit

“The security went, ‘Please step away from the table, sir’.

“But we took all the pictures, and just pictures of me and Coleen in general throughout the night.

“And I don’t know whether it was my fault or her fault, but in every picture she had a straw sticking out of her hair.”

Rooney and Coleen have been married since and now have four sons, Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass.

Eldest Kai, 15, is following in his dad’s footsteps, rising through the ranks at Man Utd’s academy with a bright future ahead of him.

While Rooney is currently taking some time away from the game after losing his job as Plymouth manager last year.

The former Derby, DC United and Birmingham boss has been linked with a return to the dugout, but he seems unlikely to make the jump any time soon after penning an £800,000 deal to become a Match of the Day pundit.

Speaking to TalkSPORT recently, Rooney explained that his focus is on his broadcasting career for now.

He said: “Obviously just doing some TV work at the minute, so that’s what I’m doing. I’m enjoying it. So, that’s where I’ll be.”
