ANDRE ONANA has suffered a nightmare debut in net for Trabzonspor after making the switch on loan from Manchester United.

His goalkeeping slip-up came against the club’s Super Lig rivals Fenerbahce as they also handed out a debut to former Manchester City stopper Ederson.

Trabzonspor suffered an early blow when Okay Yokuslu received a straight red card for an ankle breaker on Kerem Akturkoglu in the 20th minute.

The Trabzon outfit held out until the stroke of half-time, but found themselves pinned into their own area.

A scuffed clearance fell to fellow United alumnus Fred, who struck hard and low on the volley.

Onana got down well to meet it at his near post, but failed to hold onto it or push it away from the danger area.

Sebastian Szymanski reacted quickest in the box and attempted to chip it across the face of goal, but Onana was in the way.

Once again he made what could have been a shot at redemption into another howling error, reacting too slowly to bounce the ball anywhere except to the feet of the waiting Youssef En-Nesyri.

The Moroccan forward made no mistake, controlling the ball before poking it into an open net with Onana watching on from the floor.

The finish proved to be the only goal of the game, meaning Onana has arguably already cost his new side points in their attempt to mount a title charge.

It was Trabzonspor’s first loss of the season.

Onana and his opposing number for the day found very different fortunes during their stays in Manchester.

Ederson won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and a Champions League trophy in his legendary eight-year stint with City.

Onana arrived at Old Trafford in 2023 and immediately displayed progressively shaky form, becoming a ridiculed figure after several high-profile mistakes.

His poor performance in United’s Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town may have been the final straw for Ruben Amorim, with the Cameroonian stopper soon finalising a one-year loan move to Trabzonspor.

The environment might have changed, but the story remained the same, with an Onana mistake handing the victory and a clean sheet to Ederson on his debut.

Back with the Red Devils, Altay Bayindir and new signing Senne Lammens now make up the goalkeeping department as the club look to reverse their poor early-season defensive record.
