A MANCHESTER UNITED fan who attacked viral supporter ‘The United Strand’ has been handed an indefinite ban by the club.

Frank Ilett, 29, started a challenge last October in which he would refuse to cut his hair until the Red Devils won five consecutive games.

Now over a year in, the challenge has garnered national attention, featuring on various news outlets and racking up almost half a million followers.

But despite the harmless and fun nature of the challenge, it seems Ilett still managed to rub some fans the wrong way.

He was in attendance at United’s win over Chelsea last month at Old Trafford when he was attacked by a fellow fan.

Ilett was soaking in the positive atmosphere from friendly fans when the man approached him and grabbed his curly afro.

The man proceeded to yank the content creator around by the roots, forcing other fans to come to his defense.

But now it seems justice has been served, with the Mail reporting that the fan has received an indefinite ban from the home stadium.

The online personality remained positive after the harrowing incident, saying: “Yeah, it was a bit weird to be honest! I thought he was just joking to start with, but then he started yanking my hair and calling me an ‘attention-seeking c***’.

“The whole day was full of hundreds of positive interactions yesterday and 99 per cent of all of the reactions to this challenge has been nice. But just a few people can ruin it!

“My intention with this challenge was never to highlight Man United’s flaws. It was always and always will be to spread humour and positivity to United fans in a difficult time.”

The decision piles on even more good news for Ilett, who finally got to see United earn consecutive league wins under Ruben Amorim at the weekend.

The viral challenge was even addressed by United full-back Diogo Dalot following United’s win over Liverpool.

When asked about whether the second straight win could be the start of the five-game run needed to free Ilett of his afro, he said: “We’ll see. We hope that we can give him that haircut.”
