Makeshift winger Patrick Dorgu nothing short of Dream Team phenomenon

HAVING defeated Manchester City in his return to the Old Trafford dugout, Michael Carrick went one better this weekend with victory over league leaders Arsenal in North London.

There is no shortage of talking points but, from a Dream Team perspective, the headline act has to be Patrick Dorgu (£3.9m).

A left-back by trade, the 21-year-old has been deployed as a makeshift winger in recent weeks with tremendous results.

Credit to Ruben Amorim, it was the Portuguese coach who identified Dorgu’s ability to operate effectively higher up the pitch.

The Denmark international started on the right flank against Newcastle on Boxing Day and promptly scored the winner as part of a 19-point haul, his best single-game return of the season.

In two games under Carrick on the left, he’s banked 27 points via two goals against the two best teams in the country.

More broadly, Dorgu has scored three goals and provided one assist in six games as a winger.

Crucially, as he is categorised as a defender in Dream Team, he also benefits from any clean sheet points on offer.

All things considered, the former Lecce man has earned 74 points across the last six Gameweeks, 61.7% of his season total (120).

The numbers don’t lie, Dorgu is nothing short of a Dream Team phenomenon right now.

Dream Team bosses may be reluctant to recruit Man United players due to their comparatively relaxed schedule.

The Red Devils have been without European commitments this term and were eliminated from both domestic cups at the first hurdle.

While this is valid for the season as a whole, Dorgu and company are worthy of serious consideration for the next two Gameweeks.

Carrick’s side will host Fulham this Sunday before Gameweek 23 brings an appealing double header against Spurs (h) and West Ham (a), currently 14th and 18th in the table respectively.

Bruno Fernandes (£6.6m) should certainly be viewed as a top-tier option whenever he’s not badly hindered by a fixture deficit.

The Portugal international boasts the joint-highest points-per-game average (7.5) among midfielders this season, level with Antoine Semenyo (£5m).

He also leads the way for assists among all players in 2025/26 with 11 having set up Dorgu’s excellent strike at the Emirates.
