‘Lowest low I’ve ever had’ – ‘Heartbroken’ James Maddison gives emotional update after surgery for horror injury

JAMES MADDISON admits he’s suffering from the “lowest low I’ve ever had” after undergoing surgery on a horror ACL injury.

The Tottenham star has been ruled out for the majority of the new season after suffering the setback last week.

Maddison went down in agony in a friendly against Newcastle before being stretchered off the field.

He was later seen limping on crutches in worrying scenes.

But the worst news was still to come, with scans eventually confirming a serious injury to his anterior cruciate ligament.

Maddison has since undergone surgery and will be sidelined for the next six-to-nine months.

It leaves his start to life under new Spurs boss Thomas Frank in tatters, with Maddison missing Wednesday’s Super Cup final against PSG.

The club are already on the hunt for a replacement in Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.

While a spot in England’s squad for next summer’s World Cup already looks to be a forgone conclusion.

Now, Maddison has shared a heartbreaking update with followers from his hospital bed.

Posing with his three children — Leo, 4, and twins Delilah and Roma, both 2 — Maddison lifted the lid on his excruciating setback.

But he thanked his kids and partner Kennedy Alexa for helping him see light at the end of the tunnel.

Maddison told fans: “Lowest low I’ve ever had. Heartbroken at the fact this injury has occurred at this time in my career.

“With the Super Cup tomorrow, the premier league season on the horizon, the exciting champions league campaign & it being a World Cup year for England it all feels very very cruel but nevertheless the ACL reconstruction surgery was successful.

“To all my close friends and family, your support and love means absolutely everything to me.

“To those of you who have gone out of your way to message on social media platforms in support of me and my recovery even when we don’t know each other personally, I appreciate you all more than you’ll ever know so thank you.

“And lastly to those of you who doubt, hate & mock. You truly motivate me to levels I didn’t know I had inside of me so again, thank you. See you all on the other side.”

Maddison received plenty of support, with Jamie Carragher posted a heart emoji in response.

Peter Crouch also replied: “Back stronger.”
