LIONEL MESSI is reportedly in talks over a sensational transfer that will see him once more come up against great rival Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi is said to be in talks to join Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli.
A switch to Saudi from the MLS would see Messi reunite with long term rival Ronaldo, who currently plays for Al Nassr.
There was uncertainty about the Portuguese icon’s future before recently signing a new blockbuster deal with the Saudi side until 2027.
After leaving PSG back in 2023, Messi was heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League where the 38-year-old was said to have been offered a staggering £294million-a-year offer from Al Hilal.
Since joining Inter Miami, the Argentine forward has recorded 52 goals and 25 assists in just 64 games and also helped the David Beckham owned side pick up their first piece of silverware.
The former Barcelona and PSG superstar’s contract in Florida is due to expire in December and while the club have been pushing to negotiate new terms, the World Cup winner continues to be linked with a move away from America.
The Argentine already has connections with the Middle East having signed a three year deal worth £18.4million with Saudia Arabia’s Tourism Authority.
According to L’Equipe Al Ahli are doing everything they can to make a move for Messi happen.
If the star many consider to be the GOAT joined the Saudi side, he would become team-mates with former Premier League stars such as Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez and Ivan Toney.
But the most excitement would surround him renewing his rivalry with Ronaldo.
The pair met many times when they both played in Europe, with Messi just edging his rival with 22 goals to 21 across their 36 clashes.
