Liam Rosenior gives Levi Colwill injury update after Chelsea star tore ACL in first training session of pre-season

CHELSEA manager Liam Rosenior has provided an injury update on Levi Colwill.

The Blues centre-back, 22, tore his ACL in the first training session of pre-season back in August.

Colwill, who bagged an assist in Chelsea’s 3-0 Club World Cup final win over PSG, underwent surgery after the devastating injury.

And Rosenior admitted he can’t wait to work with the “outstanding” defender.

The Blues boss said: “I’ve spoken to him this morning, he is really good.

“He’s working so hard in terms of his rehab. It’s been brilliant to see him back out on the pitch now, doing his running, which is a huge step for him after ACL injury.

“He’s itching to get back, but again we need to make sure that when he is back he feels 100 per cent perfect again.”

When asked about a return date, the Blues gaffer added: “He’s on good track.

“I don’t like putting timeframes on injuries because I think it puts unnecessary pressure on players where their health is the most important thing.”

Rosenior also provided updates on the health of Tosin Adarabioyo and Romeo Lavia.

He revealed Tosin was back out on the pitch doing individual rehab, while he refused give a timeframe on Lavia’s return.

Lavia’s career has been hampered by injury since his £58million move from Southampton in 2023 and Rosenior wants to ensure “when he’s back, he’s back for good”.

He added: “Romeo’s in a really, really good place. We just have to make sure this last stage of his rehab is really good.”

Rosenior admitted Chelsea’s hectic schedule was the reason why they have suffered so many injuries in a short space of time and he is looking to strengthen all areas of his squad before Monday’s deadline.

Signing a central defender in the absence of Colwill and Tosin remains the priority.

Chelsea face London rivals West Ham in the Premier League tomorrow with the chance to temporarily move to fourth in the table.

They face Prem leaders Arsenal on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg, trailing 2-1, with a trip to Wembley in March on the line.
