Leeds United to build one of Premier League’s biggest stadiums as stunning plans are revealed

LEEDS UNITED have revealed stunning plans to build one of the Premier League’s biggest stadiums.

The Whites are a top flight club once again and kick-off their season by hosting Everton at Elland Road.

And club chiefs are looking to follow in the example of the Toffees by improving their home ground, with the visitors due to play their first game at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium next weekend.

But rather than leaving Elland Road, where the club has played since its formation in 1919, they will look to enhance it.

Under the plans, first outlined in September 2024, the club revealed a major increase in its capacity size, jumping from just under 38,000 seats to a total of 53,000.

This new size would make the 106-year-old ground the seventh-biggest football stadium in England, narrowly above Everton’s new digs.

The revealed plans indicated this increase would be facilitated by expanding the capacity of the West Stand by almost 10,000 seats and the North Stand by just under 5,000.

There are also plans to allow Elland Road to be able to host national and international football events, as well as non-football events such as concerts.

The planning application submitted by the club to Leeds City Council said up to eight non-football events would be held every year.

Features of the new ground would also be see improvements to the general admission and hospitality facilities.

As many as 26,000 fans are on the season ticket waiting list for Leeds.

If the plans are approved – with the club hopeful a response will be received within 13 weeks – renovation work will begin in 2026.

A fan consultation by the club saw 98 per cent of respondents vote in favour of the plans.

Leeds’ chief business officer Morrie Eisenberg said the plans will “revitalise” the arena and “preserve the unique history and heritage it holds”.

He added: “(It will) also provide great economic benefits to the local community and will be a catalyst for a regeneration of the area.”
