News of that came at 11am on Tuesday, shortly after Cheltenham Town vs Gillingham was also called off.

A pitch inspection at Cheltenham took place at 9:30am after heavy rainfall overnight.

The match officials checked out the playing surface and made the decision to postpone it early.

The club say there is no sign of conditions improving throughout the day with more terrible weather expected to continue.

Dates for both matches to be replayed will be confirmed and announced in the future.

A host of non-league matches have also been cancelled for Tuesday night with the storm soaking pitches across the country.

Floods have hit certain areas including severe issues in York, where the River Ouse burst its banks.

The Met Office issued a rare “danger to life” warning with winds as high as 75mph in some parts of the UK.

Extreme rain and even snow in the north has come as amber and yellow warnings are issued.

Leeds Bradford Airport has been heavily disrupted on Tuesday with many commuters also experiencing problems.

Belfast City Airport also cancelled flights with ferry crossings impacted too.

At the time of writing, seven English schools have closed in Herefordshire and over 300 shut in Northern Ireland.

Some cars were left stuck in water in Devon.

Much of the south-east will have a yellow warning in place until at least midday with the potential for more professional games to be impacted.
