Lamont Roach’s lawyer has sent a letter to the New York State Athletic Commission, asking them to change the results from Lamont’s fight against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis last Saturday night to make him the new WBA lightweight champion.

The fight was scored a 12-round majority draw: 115-113 for Tank, 114-114 and 114-114.

According to Dan Rafael, Roach’s attorney wants the New York Commission to “declare” him the winner over Tank by a ninth round TKO, disqualified or by decision. Davis took a knee in the ninth round after being hit.

He then got up and went to his corner to have his face toweled off by his trainer. He claimed that he had hair grease in his eyes. The referee Steve Willis didn’t count that as a knockdown, score it as a knockout or disqualify him. He could have done one of the three, because Tank had walked to his corner without a timeout.

You just knew this was coming from Roach’s side because the no-knockdown call in the ninth round against Tank cost him not only the fight but likely millions that he would get as the new WBA lightweight champion. He would hold the WBA title, which would play in his favor in negotiations for a rematch with Tank or a fight against one of the other belt-holders, like WBC champ Shakur Stevenson.

“Lamont Roach’s attorney, Greg Smith, sent a letter to New York State Athletic Commission, requesting the commission review Roach’s controversial majority draw with WBA lightweight titlist Gervonta Davis,” said Dan Rafael on his Fight Freaks Unite.

[The letter] calls for the commission to overturn the result of the fight and declare Roach, who is the reigning WBA junior lightweight titlist, as “the true winner of the bout — either via TKO due to Mr. Davis removing himself from the Bout or being disqualified for carrying an illegal irritant into the ring, or via decision after scores have been adjusted to reflect the knockdown.”

If the referee had given Roach credit for the ninth round knockdown, he would have won by the scores 115-112, 114-113, and 114-113
